Active Shooter Safety and Protocols

This course equips security officers with the critical knowledge and mental preparedness required to respond effectively to active shooter incidents. It covers early warning signs, attacker psychology, and the essential survival mindset necessary to act decisively under pressure. Officers learn proven response protocols like Run–Hide–Fight, as well as their specific responsibilities before, during, and after an event. The training emphasizes quick assessment, communication with emergency services, and coordination with law enforcement to protect lives and minimize harm. Through scenario-based examples and current FBI findings, participants gain insight into how these unpredictable events unfold and the proactive measures that can prevent tragedy. The course concludes with recovery and debriefing best practices to strengthen future preparedness and resilience. Participants will be provided with an understanding of the following:

Introduction to Active Shooter Events

Recognizing Threats and Warning Signs

• Shooter mindset and motives

Security Guard Responsibilities

• Preventive vigilance and situational awareness
• Pre-incident preparedness and mental readiness
• Responsibilities before, during, and after a shooting

Response Protocols

• Run–Hide–Fight procedures for all threat levels
• A.L.I.V.E. protocol: Assess, Leave, Impede, Violence, Expose
• Applying response tactics in open areas

Communication and Coordination

• Contacting emergency services and relaying key details
• Guiding civilians and assisting first responders
• Maintaining calm and authority during evacuations

Law Enforcement and Recovery Procedures

• CCooperating with responding officers
• Post-incident reporting and documentation
• Learning and recovery after an active shooter event
