Both California Guard Card packages are fully aligned with current BSIS requirements, including the requirement that 50% of the 8-hour Powers to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force course be completed through in-person training. Step-By-Step on How to Get a Guard Card in California
Before applying for a California guard card, you need to complete the Power to Arrest and Appropriate Use of Force, totaling 8 hours, with 4 of those hours held in person.
You can apply online through BreEZe, California’s licensing system.
Live scan is the fingerprinting step required for the BSIS guard card background check. It submits your fingerprints to the California DOJ and FBI as part of the application process.
BSIS reviews your application and background check after they are submitted.
After registration or employment begins, new guards must complete 32 hours of additional BSIS training. The first 16 hours are due within 30 days. The remaining 16 hours are due within 6 months.
